backing up external hard drive with time machine

My trusty 2008 iMac has a drive that's almost full. I bought 2x2tb external 3.5" hard drives, one to use as a time machine and the other to move my files off my slow running mac.
Then I realised I won't have a back up of the files I move to the hard drive not being used for Time machine. Or can I set up time machine to back up the other harddrive too?
Please help!

Find SuperDuper registered version $29 does a Smart Backup once the hard drive has been cloned. Smart Backup say weekly keeps the backup drive up to date and takes about four minutes.

And this drive is bootable something Time Machine his not. Best option is a drive in an external case unless you have a Mac Pro etc with multiple HDD bays.
