Hi, I plan on buying a Canon Vixia to make stop motion videos with my macbook. Right now I am using a Canon Powershot to make the videos, digital still cameras do not work very well with frame grabbing programs so I am forced to use RemoteCapture DC, this application doesn't have useful features such as onionskinning. I am wondering if a capture card is needed with macs to capture frames from cameras. I also don't know which model of the Canon Vixia to get. I would hope to find the camera for under 600. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like you should look into a product such as iStopMotion. One of their pages says that Apple doesn't allow individual HD frame capture from HD video cameras. Also, Boinx charges much much more for HD capability compared to there home edition software.
Dragon Stop Motion is another option.
FrameByFrame is a free option to try. I have not tried it.

Well, if you do go for an SLR, look at the supported still camera list for iSM and notice the column titled "Capture Images". I'd think that would be a strong influence for this use.
