Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer

Hi All,

I have a 24" iMac intel core 2 duo (2007) running OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard I assume). I bought a Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 install disc off ebay, they came from the states and they look original, I checked them against my original 10.5 discs. I simply want to upgrade but it's not allowing me to as per the message above. I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm in the UK and my iMac has ample memory. Any ideas people? What am I missing here?

Is it a gray disc or retail disc like the one below? You want the retail disc, the gray discs are machine specific and will only work with the machine it came with..

Ah, they're the gray ones. The seller assured me they were for an iMac but I'm guessing your saying that these discs are for the mac they came with on day one?

Try giving apple UK a call, they may still sell the retails copy of Snow leopard, but you wont find it on their online store

Call Apple and request the retail copy of Snow Leopard. Have not seen a report of the cost in the UK, but here in the US we've seen prices of $20 & $30. They're only available by calling.

That is correct..the gray discs are machine specific..and from my understanding that's machine specific down to the machine it shipped with, not just type of machine. So discs from one iMac won't work with another iMac from the same era or what have you..

Hopefully, you didn't pay much for these gray discs, but do as louishen and bobtomay suggest to get a retail copy of SL..

Well, just ordered the snow Leopard disc from Apple, only £14 shipped which is really good! It cost me $15 for the one I bought off ebay so that's a lesson learned. Thanks guys.

Contact the seller and ask for a refund as they were advertised incorrectly. eBay abounds with this type of software.
