Since 4.0 Safari has been a nightmare! It is the slowest, most pathetic browser on the market! I much prefer Chrome at this point.

Don't they see they have a problem???

While not a giant fan of Safari, my first choices are Opera & FF, I have had no issues with slowdowns on Safari 4 on either of my Macs here.

There is nothing wrong with preferring another browser either.
Think I have at least 6 browsers installed.

I've had no problems with Safari. I like Chrome a lot more (even when it was in its' dev) but there's nothing wrong with Safari. Maybe if you're having such 'problems' you could try to find a solution or ask for some help with issues instead of needlessly posting a moan thread.

Ruined? I never knew it to be a solid browser to begin with.

I like Safari a lot. It is a solid browser. I just wish it would use less window chrome - like Google Chrome.

Aside from the boneheaded switch to a tiny stop/reload button, Safari works fine for me.

It may not have the extra features of Opera or the add-ons like Firefox, but at least it has a bookmarks manager...unlike Chrome. ;)

I like chrome, thats what I have been using. Before that I used FF for pretty much everything. In the few instances where chrome wont work for something I typically use FF.

I've never liked using Safari either. The only thing I like is its integration with OS X. Firefox on OS X, Swiftweasel on Linux!

Have you done anything to troubleshoot the problem or are you just here to garner more - rep?

:) After using IE all those years, for me, Safari is like being in heaven!

Regards.

My Safari is running like lightening, no problems. I was a die hard FF fan, but then I ran into a FF update that caused it to get kind of wonky. That irritated me enough to prompt the switch to Safari, and I've been pleased ever since.

Don't think Apple has actually ruined Safari ~ simply never has been as good as FF.

EXACTLY! ;)

I've never used all those other browsers. I know there's tons out there but I've just never bothered to try any of them out. IE is weak compared to Safari, so when I switched to Mac over a year ago I was MORE than pleased with Safari.

I'm sure it's not the best there is, but I don't see the need for complaining about it.

Safari 4.0.4 here on 10.5.8 and 10.6.2. Works great and fast. Fastest browser out there on SunSpider Java and better on ACID 3. I see one small error on chrome still.

Firefox is a great browser and I understand the fan base it has. On Windows I use it 99% of the time.

I do like Opera also but on OSX I have tried everything and keep going back to Safari and use the others on problem pages.

I have Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Camino all installed.

Absolutely.

This is where my question comes in - slow in what sense? WebKit (layout engine for Safari and Chrome) is widely recognized as one of, if not the fastest layout engines on the market. It's light, clean (from a code stance apparently) and renders just about everything you can throw at it. So, are you saying the browser is slow as an application or slow at rendering pages? If you think it's slow at rendering pages, then you have a lot of work to do arguing against the widely acknowledged fact that WebKit is really fast.
