locked item in trash

i deleted some stuff off of an external drive and apparently it was locked but its stuck in my trash can how do I delete it permanently?

The files in the trash might be read only or you may have deleted them from an external drive that was formatted to NTFS.

If you're sure the files are to be deleted, download "Force Empty Trash" a small free program which will force delete them.

it didnt work, all it is is basically a bunch of empty folders now.

OK. You'll need to log on to the system as ROOT and do the same thing. Follow Apple's directions. Link

Do a "get info" on the folders, and uncheck the "Locked" checkbox. Then empty the trash.
