Getting KVO to update

I have an app that has a field that I can not get to update unless I tab away from that field. Is there a way in code or setup that will tell the field to write the value currently in it to the binding controller?

I have added a button and I would like to make sure that the text field writes his value when the button is clicked.

Any help would be appreciated.
