How to insert Mpg movie into Imovie?

I am wondering how I could use an mpg file downloaded off a PC and use it within an Imovie? How can this be done? Does it have to be transferred into another format?

I don't think so. I take mpeg movies exported from final cut pro and import them into iMovie and they work fine.
