I am entering the 21st century and getting connected with a cable modem. My desktop supports gigabit ethernet. Will I notice a difference if I purchase a router that supports 10/100/1000? The cable modem speed will be 8megs. I would like to go with the new airport extreme however it doesnt support gigabit eathernet to my knowledge. my uses will be surfing, gaming, and downloading content.

Thanks for all your input

You won't need it, since your internet speeds won't be anywhere near close enough to use the gigibit speeds. A regular 10/100 router will be fine.
