I've used Word in Office v. X for years and have saved about 1,500 extremely important documents. Every so often, Word "unexpectedly quits." When this happens, I have a heart attack.

I just bought Office '08, hoping the Word in it won't have the quit glitch.

Is there anything I should beware of when I do the install?

Does '08 overwrite and replace v. X, or will I have both on the HD after the install? If both, do I trash v. X after the install, and will all my docs be preserved?

Thx,

How

Make a backup before you install MS Office 2008 that way you won't have to worry about losing anything. Office 2008 will not overwrite X.

Office X and Office 2008 can co-exist but it's not recommended and may in fact cause confusion. All your documents and templates will open as before and can be edited or saved again.

Personally, I would remove Office X prior to installing 2008. You can keep your documents and templates and only remove the working files. It's not necessary, but that's what I would do. Again, make a backup first!

Regards.

Office 2008 does not support VBA. Does X? Office 2011 is supposed to restore that functionality, which is present in Office 2004.

Every version since Office 97 has included VBA, except for Office 2008.

Install 08 and update it and go into Word preferences and change the default setting from .docx to .doc.
