Battery question

I often use my MB as a desktop, and I leave my powercord plugged in, as i am sitting at a desk. Is it suggested to remove the powercord and drain the battery every once in a while, or is it fine to just leave it plugged in 24/7? I tend to put my MB asleep when im not using it. My main worry is that I will 'kill' my battery, so when I need it to be mobile, I will be out of luck.
