So I noticed that I have 5800 or so files in my music folder. itunes says there are 5468 songs. ???? I found some artists that don't have all their songs in itunes. I try to add the missing mp3's by "add to library", and they won't come in, can't drag and drop them into itunes either - it just flashes a little and does nothing.

I've checked the following:
-permissions - fine
-files locked? - nope
-format? - they're mp3's...proper size, tags are normal
:| :|

The files in question all play in preview window (get info), and in any other application I open them in.

Anyone have a similar experience they've solved? Thx.

the only think i can think of is the format of the mp3's. Did you get info on the mp3's? maybe their tagged .mp3 but actually a different file type? idk
