Fan speed issue > MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Hi,

My mac's fan speed revs up to 6000+ RPM all the time, and I can't figure out why. I downloaded smc fan control, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

What are
A) The ideal temperature for this computer?
B) Reasons for the fan speed increase?

Activity monitor has failed to show any reason for this.

Normal temperature for your model should be around 49 - 53 degrees C with a fan speed of around 1800 RPM. If smcFanControl isn't able to control the speed of the fan and your activity monitor shows no unusual goings on with the CPU, it's time to take it on in to Apple and have them look at it. Could be a defective thermal sensor which controls fan speed or the fan itself.

Install menutemperature and see if your temperature is unusually high and if it isnt with the fans shooting up for no reason then do what chscag said and take it back to Apple.
