I have a 2 GHz Intel MacBook running OS X 10.4.10, with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 disc drive. When ever I insert a blank disc it will spin for a little while then eject it. it reads discs fine.
I thought it might be the discs I was using so I bought some new ones of a different brand, same problem. I also tried to use a DVD+R and it will mount, but once I try to burn anything to it it says "burning the disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)".
So what's going on? I have tried to update and there is nothing. I also tried burning from Toast 8 Titanium with no luck. This is the first I've tried to burn anything so I don't know if it ever worked. I've had the computer for over a year, so no support.
Suggestions?

I am also having problems with my junk apple (MatSHITa dvd-r UJ-868) dvd-r drive. I just bought this macbook about a month ago and i can't even burn from the finder half the time (I get error code 0x80020022) And I have not tried any firmware updates. Because I heard that it may completely disable my drive altogether. Using an external drive works great. But I would like to use my internal drive someday. BAGS ( P.S. popcorn 2 and 3 don't work either.

Why haven't you contacted Apple about the drive or taken it on in to have it looked at? Since it's still under warranty.

Regards.
