Hi all,

I'd like to install Windows 7 64 bit on my MBP (early 2008, Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz). I've read on the forum that using NTFS is preferred (possibly required) over FAT for this, and that this can be a bit complicated in Bootcamp.

Would it be easier to do this by first making a Windows partition with while running from the iPartition disk, and then do a 'manual' install of Windows (as if you were installing it on any other machine, sans Bootcamp)?

Thanks!

Win 7 will not install to a FAT partition. NTFS is required.

There are typically no problems using BootCamp if you take the 5 minutes it takes to print out the instructions and follow them instead of flying by the seat of your pants. They really couldn't have made it any easier.

Open BootCamp Assistant and print the instructions available from the very first window.

Thanks, before I posted, I actually did read the sticky on bootcamp, then printed out the instructions and skimmed them. I decided to post because the instructions don't mention Windows 7, only XP and Vista. Is it the case that 7 isn't offically supported by bootcamp, but works all the same?

Sorry!

Just occured to me to google Bootcamp Windows 7 compatibility, and it turns out you need the Bootcamp 3.1 update. I checked my version, and sure enough it's only 3.0.1. I just ran OS X update yesterday, so I assumed I had the most recent version. Guess I need to run it again!

It recognizes 7 as Vista. I wouldn't use 64 bit. I have no issues with my install of Win 7 ultimate on my '06 MBP.

BootCamp Assistant is not the same thing as BootCamp that you will be installing in Windows from your Snow Leopard disc.

BootCamp 3.1 are the updated drivers which you will get after you install Windows and BootCamp in windows.

Right, just figured that out when I saw it was a .exe file!

Why wouldn't you recommend using 64 bit? Compatibility issues? Guess I don't really have a critical reason for using it... but guessed it might run a bit faster than 32 bit.

While most folks seem to have no issues, have seen too many reports of driver issues.

The only real advantage is being able to access more than 3 GB of RAM you're limited to with the 32 bit.
