setting up Mail on new Mac

hey, im setting up "Mail" on my new mac. im trying to get it the sync with hotmail. i select POP then when it asks me to put in incoming mail server (mail.example.com) i'v tried to put in mail.hotmail.com and mail.live.com. the latter shows up in the address bar when i cheak my mail. nither if these work however, i keep getting the message "cannot connect to server". how do i do this? thanks in advnce for any help

I had about the same problem with my msn.com account. I finally had to get my mail from hotmail.com. Hotmail doesn't work with the Mac format from what I was able to figure out. Hope this helps...

Hotmail (the free version) is not configured to work with desktop email clients, either on a Mac or PC. However, if you're using a Hotmail account that you created a few years ago, you can install the htppmail plugin for Mail that will let you use Hotmail in Mail. I've been using it for a couple years, and it works great. You need to have an older Hotmail account though, at least 4ish years old.

ok, thanks guys, i have the new, free hotmail, two strikes. thanks anyway

sorry to hear that...if you really want to use Mail, get a gmail account, it works well with Mail.

No, it doesn't - but you can use a program like MacFreePOPs as an intermediary to deliver webmail to your Mail client.

I use it for Yahoo, Gmail and Mail.com - it works very well.
