Is there a way to have the Mac update a connection to another computer's files, perhaps with a command-something type keystroke?

We work on several computers connected through an ethernet LAN. The issue with the Mac is that it does not update the file list quickly. What I mean is that if you have opened another computer's files in a Finder window and the icon is created on the desktop, when a new file is created on the other computer you cannot see the new file in the finder. What we typically must do is eject the (virtual disk? disk image?) and then open it again.

Is there a way to have the Mac update a connection, perhaps with a command-something type keystroke?

Thank you,

Bill
