Hi there, i have a mid 2007 MBP 2.2Ghz . Sadley on new years eve (2008) it died :( .The logic board has gone and apple want £700 to fix it !!! Which considering it was 4 months out of warranty when it happened is ridiculous !! Yes yes i know applecare lesson number 1 ,i know.
Anyways i need to decide what to do, do i sell as a faulty unit or try selling off bit by bit because as far as i know all other parts are good ?

Would appreciate feedback as need to get funds to buy new Macbook Pro and yes will get applecare this time !

thanks

Look on ebay to see what the parts are selling for vs. a broken machine sold as parts. whichever sells for more is your best bet if you have purley financial motives.

Im lazy and would just sell it as a unit for parts because it is probably fairly time consuming to take it apart and list all the parts, some of which aren't worth all that much.

Since it's out of warranty it might be worthwhile to repair it yourself or have someone other than Apple do the repairs. Since you appear to be in the UK, I can't recommend a third party service where you could possibly save money on the repairs. However, why not shop around and get some estimates before deciding on selling it for parts.

Regards.

Hi there , thanks for the feedback ! I have looked around and i can get logic boards fro around £500 ish and i used to be a IT engineer and specialised in laptops so fitting isnt a problem but i am concerned that it is only 300-400 quid cheaper than getting a new macbook pro so i am thinking the wise money option is by new for more power and warranty etc so i may just sell, save and savour !! Oh and yes this time i will get the apple care !!

Dude you can repair them for free. I bought my mbp June 2007 and had exactly the same problem. But I told an apple genius that my video card was acting funky before the logic board died and he told me since the video card has problems too they can repair it for free because all MBP that's produced around the same period has problems with Nvidia because these were the first MBPs to have Nvidia.

Go back to the store again and try argue with them.

Oh check out here, it's got a link to this apple article I guess you can pull it off using the link below:
MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

Symptoms
In July 2008, NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors due to a packaging defect. At that same time, NVIDIA assured Apple that Mac computers with these graphics processors were not affected. However, after an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within three years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty.
What to look for:

Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen
No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on
Specific products affected:

MacBook Pro 15-inch and 17-inch models with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors

MacBook Pro (17-Inch, 2.4GHz)
MacBook Pro (15-Inch, 2.4/2.2GHz)
MacBook Pro (Early 2008)
These computers were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008

The exact problem was no display at all even though the machine was on, battery held charge, made the correct sounds when turning on, span the optical drive then the hdd etc etc. Hmmm sounds sus i gonna get in there a create all !!!! cheers dude will post what happened !!
