System settings icon accidentally put in trash

My problem is that I removed my system settings icon and emptied my trash. Now I am unable to access my settings. Wondering if anyone knows what I can do to get it back. Using 10.5.8 os
You can also access it by clicking Apple Icon in Toolbar and selecting preferences.

Well, it just begs the question 'Why did you delete System Preferences?'
You could try: restoring it from your backup or maybe give Pacifist a shot to install only that from the OS disc.

First you need to tell us which back up program you're using? Time Machine?

It looks like we're going around in circles here. Sorry if our answers are invoking more questions from you.
From your answers above, it appears you deleted not just the icon to "System Preferences" but instead deleted the entire application. Additionally, it also appears that you do not have a backup to use so that you can restore the "System Preferences" application.
Since your understanding of computers is limited, I strongly suggest finding someone to assist you in reinstalling OS X so that everything can be restored properly. Find someone who knows about Mac computers and its operating system.
