Apple Mail, accounts appear lost

I had been having some difficulty syncronizing my email accounts. I went looking for a preference to dump. This is what I put in trash; com.apple.mail.plist. Restart and did not recognize accounts. I took file out of trash and put back into preferences file and restart but same deal. How do I get my email accounts back up? [email protected]
