Just upgraded to snow leopard a few days ago... After using it about a day, spaces just stopped working.

I have it mapped to F8, and when I press it it'll just give me the error "blip" sound.

So I went into preferences, turned it off and then on, changed the key mapping, and whatever key I mapped it to, it wouldn't work. I restarted my computer, and it happened again... Anyone have any Idea what this could be?

I'm using an older white shelled macbook, if that matters.

Hmm... I'm not sure. I've got it up and running fine on my aluminum MacBook... hopefully it gets fixed with 10.6.1, but maybe somebody will have a better idea in the mean time... 10.6.1 should be here sometime next week if what I'm reading is accurate.

I have not had this problem. Try setting a hot corner and see if that works.
