Help with failed app download

Bought an app through the app store and started downloading, but for some reason my wireless connection failed and the app never downloaded. I read that I am supposed to use my computer to download the app now, which i did, but when I go to sync my ipod to my computer apps, it says all my apps AND DATA will be overwritten! Help! How do I get my purchased app onto my ipod without wiping out the data from my other apps?

Your Mac's Specs
Mac Pro, Power Mac G4, iMac G3, iPhone 3GS
Plug in the iPod touch. In iTunes, File > Back up Applications or something like that. It'll take care of transferring things from your Pod to your Macintosh. Then you can sync.
