Hopefully I am posting in the right forum, as I suppose this could have gone in the beginner forum.

Anyway, I am on a MacBook and my OS is currently 10.5.8. I'd like to upgrade, but it seems like I can't upgrade without an... upgrade. I tried do download Lion, but it said I'm unable to without an OS of 10.6 or greater. Is there any way around this?

Thank you :)

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Go the way Nick has suggested. Upgrade to Snow Leopard is $29.00 and then another $29.00 to upgrade to Lion OS X.7 by way of download. For $69.00 you get the advantage of Lion on a bootable USB thumb drive.

As Harry mentioned...you can upgrade to OS 10.6 Snow Leopard for $29 (you need OS 10.6.6 to get the App Store to download Lion)...and then upgrade to Lion for $29.99.

Or get the $69 Lion USB stick.

So you have two choices...the less expensive route & the easier route (more expensive)

- the two install process which costs $59 bucks
- the single install for $69

Sorry if I'm hijacking...but I am about to do the same upgrade (just ordered Snow Leopard so that I can update to Lion...kind of wish I had seen the thumb drive option before) and am wondering what happens to 3rd party software during these upgrades. I currently have Office 2008 on my Macbook with Leopard. Will I need to reinstall Office after upgrading the OS?

Thanks very much!!

No, Office 2008 works OK with both Snow Leopard and Lion. No reinstallation is necessary. However, a word of caution about your apps. If you have any apps that are PPC coded they will not work in Lion. Rosetta has been removed from Lion. Snow Leopard is the last version of OS X that is capable of running PPC coded applications.

.....

I did the math, and it's 98% closer to 60 bucks. ;)
