iTunes music help needed

Hello to all,

can anybody tell me if once a song has been added to iTunes from files on my computer i can then delete the old file?

the reason I ask is that since installing iTunes I have a 17GB folder appeared in my music folder... (yes im currently a PC user, please don't hate me! i'm planning my first purchase soon) ...I have had something happen and I have ended up with masses of duplicates within iTunes, i am now working my way through deleting all the duplicates and rating everything. but once i am finished and backed up my music onot my iphone can I then delete the old files on my computer?

you can delete the data in the "my music" except for the one labeled iTunes ! That is as long as you have imported them into iTunes.

Hi Clay, yes I have imported all of my music and videos etc in iTunes and I i'm working my through the arduous task of rating each track.

I had thought that was the case that once done I could delete the old files, just wanted to check i was right in my assumptions. Thank you
