Problem downloading files

I'm currently on a one year international exchange in France. There is an internal student website where students can download class notes (MS Office Documents, PPT etc.), however, whenever I try to download the files, they save in my download folder with the extension 'inline' at the end of the file name. When I use my friend's laptop with vista, they just save as the file name (i.e. no 'inline' extension).
I have a authentic version of MS Office on my macbook, and I also purchased iWork 08 when I bought the lap top, nevertheless I still can't open any documents from this internal student website.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Try replacing the word 'inline' with 'doc' ie: 'filename.inline' to 'filename.doc'
