hold switch not working . . . please help!!

2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM
On my iPod Touch, whenever I press the hold switch, nothing happens anymore. I press it, it doesn't lock. I hold it, it doesn't turn off. What do I do? Please Help!!!
