So let's say that you just bought a MacBook Pro along with an Airport Extreme Base Station last month, and you got an iPod last Christmas, and you could buy any ONE thing from the Apple store, what would it be?

Assume that money is essentially no option, but it can only be one thing. Is the obvious answer a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display?

This isn't just to spark conversation, I might in this situation for some reason ;), and am looking for some input ;).

I go with a maxed out Mac Pro like Del said. You could resell it for so much money, or keep it and have a bad computer.

man you could sell it for 10k or more. I would get a maxed out mac book pro but since you got it maybe some kind of editing suit, fcp6 or adobe.

Aside from the resale schemes and realizing your MBP is all the computer you'll need for some time, I think the obvious choice is a 30" Cinema display.

I'd have to say 30" Cinema Display... If you need the power of the Mac Pro, you'd already have one (instead of a laptop). And the one thing you can always need more of is screen space.

Besides, you could get a semi-maxed out Pro and a 30" for less (!!!) than a maxed-out Pro.

Everyone seems to been keen on a maxed out MAc Pro and the comment oon it being worth more than someone's car peaked my interest. So here's a config for a Mac Pro "maxed out" with hardware upgrades only, no peripherals or software:

Processor: Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory: 16GB (8 x 2GB)
Mac Pro RAID Card
Hard Drives for EACH of the 4 bays: 750GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 512MB, Stereo 3D (2 x dual-link DVI)
Optical drives for BOTH bays: 16x SuperDrives
wireless connectivity: Both Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and AirPort Extreme
Fibre channel card: Quad-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card

Total: $14,366!!

Yep, worth more than my car is now worth! And if you want to get really crazy and include ALL options for this "single purchase":

Display: 2 Apple Cinema HD Displays (30" flat panel)
Modem: Apple USB Modem (as a goof!)
Inputs: Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple wireless Mighty Mouse
OS: Mac OS X Server (Unlimited-Client)
Software (could only choose one): Final Cut Express HD preinstalled
.Mac: 1-year basic membership

Total: $19,436.95!!!

There ya go, MattSharp, Enjoy!!

Wow - $19,436.95!!!! If that exceeds the cost of your car (usually the second most expensive purchase right behind a house) then it is time to clean out your garage and park the new Mac inside the garage (in a place of honor of course). :D :D
