• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hello,

I have a Macbook pro, and it is set to region 2. How can I play different regions without having to change the region code?

I have VLC but it doesnt seem to open the disk from my desktop.
Also tried opening the Video_TS.VOB file but that didnt play the movie. It played a short repeating clip of a kid jumping and twisting in the air (strange!)

Any thoughts?

Thanks

You should be able to play them through the pre-installed DVD Player app, it will ask you if you want to change the Region that the DVD player can play, but be careful you only get about 3 times you can change the region default until it locks to that region.

Hope this helps

Hi Buzzard,

My question was, how to do it without changing the region code through the DVD player.

Thanks

VLC is the standard app for playing dvds instaed of Apple's DVD Player. Try deleting the VLC .plist file(in Home Folder>Library>Preference), and also try downloading and installing VLC again.

There is no legal way of doing this without changing your region code. Hence, i nor anyone on this forum can answer this question without breaking the rules.

My advice, Google it. It is definitely possible.
