This forum uses my full screen but many (most) web pages and applications only cover about half my screen or less. Is there some way I can set preferences to use my full screen for everything? Seems a waste of a nice big screen.

If you want things "fullscreened", simply drag the corner of the window to your desired size.
Personally, I find it more of a waste to use the whole screen for only one app.

Start multitasking. As soon as you start using several apps at once you'll appreciate your screen real estate. I usually have iTunes mini player, a couple MSN messenger windows, multiple tabs of Safari, iPhoto, Photoshop CS3, and iWeb. I wish I had more screen real estate... 1600x1200 is no where near enough!
