I recently purchased a used Macbook Pro that does not have the top (screen etc) attached to it. It was shown to work on an external monitor in pictures from the seller so for now let's assume it works.

Things of note:

-Turning it on does sound the chime
-The monitor and cable do work (recently tested on PC)
-I'm using the DVI out connection

So what I'm trying to do is simply get the monitor to show the display from the pro when I boot up. Any suggestions/keystroke walkthroughs? Thanks very much
and let me know if more information is required.

Start the MacBook Pro up with the lid closed. Make sure you have an external USB keyboard and mouse before you do.... See this Apple KB article: LINK One caveat here... you must be on AC power as it will not work if the MBP is operating on battery only.

No luck. I'll keep searching. Any further suggestions are most welcome.
