Poor transfer speeds over wireless N

i have a MacBook Pro, and a vista64 machine.

I have the networked VIA a Belkin N+ Wireless Router.

The PC is connected at 1.0GHZ directly to the router by ethernet cable.

The MacBook is connected via Airport at.. ??? speed (is there any way you can even check that?)

when transferring large files (500mb+)from one to the other.. the maximum speed I am seeing.. is about 1.5 MB a sec.. and its taking a LONG time.

very very poor.

Ive run KisMac and verified that Im not on a crowded channel ( only wireless using Ch4 within range)

what else could be causing such slow throughput?

Which unit is doing the DHCP and what brand is Wireless Router and is it set to Bridge mode?

Its a Belkin F5D8235-4 v2000.
The router is DHCP with reserved addressed for the Machines (I.E. its DHCP but it always assigns them the same address)

UPDATE:

I disabled wireless security, and am instead using mac filtering.

Speeds went from 1.5MB/sec max and are now hovering around 2.6-2.9MB/sec

much better, but still a far cry from what SHOULD be possible over my network.

UPDATE: apparently Windows does not gauge the transfer speed accuratly..

After removing wireless security and switching to mac windows showed.. initally 2.6 to 2.9 and slowly climbing, I checked my network monitoring util and it was showing a transfer rate over over 6.0MB/sec apparenty windows averages the speed throughout the transfer to get its transfer rate number.

by the end of the transfer windows was showing 5.5MBsec and was still climbing.
