Can I leave the back-lit light always on?

Mac Pro 8x3.0ghz 12gb ram 8800GT , MBP 2.16 2GB Ram 17 inch.
If you are talking about your keyboard.. it will only be on when it is dark in the room you are in. It will not turn on if you are in a well lit area because that would be a waste of battery power.

There are sensors in the speaker grilles :)

If you want constant backlight, you could always cover both speaker grilles. Although this would dim the screen as well, and probably have some heating issues too. :)
