• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I'm looking into being a filmmaker and having purchased a Mac since I feel it's better for video, I am now without at the moment a suitable camera to work with the mac. The Sony DCR-TRV19 that I have doesn't work through either the USB or Firewire port on my Mac (although it works on the PC on USB) and I'm looking to get a new one that will work with the Mac.

What would some of you recommend for a middle-of-the-road price with good quality video?

Your Mac's Specs
Late 2013 rMBP, i7, 750m gpu, OSX versions 10.9.3, 10.10
What do you call middle of the road? Also are you looking for SD or HD cameras? If you're looking for an HD camcorder, if it's AVCHD you'll have to suffer thru long conversions thru third party software before using it in your video editor (PPC Macs don't support AVCHD footage in any of Apples editors), if it's tape based HD I'm pretty sure you're ok as long as it's firewire and not USB for capturing footage..
