Use Spotlight to find all files with "office" or "microsoft" in their names, and delete them.

Then try re-installing Office, and running the Microsoft Update application (several times) until you're completely updated before running anything.

Did you have any version installed prior? There is an uninstall on the CD which should be used before installing 2004.

Also, was the Office "test drive" installed by default on your MacBook? It has an uninstaller, and you should run that as well before you install the "real" Office. Also, per technologist, run the updater once office is "in" - not once, but about 7 times in a row, until it finally reports that there are no more updates available. THEN start using Office. Hopefully, you will have better results.

I just went through these very steps on my new MacBook Pro, and all seems well (if not really speedy) with MS Office on it.
