hey guyz,

Just got my new 14" ibook with combo drive, and what can I say, it has exceeded my expectations. heres all the things that have impressed me so far.

1. the screen quality is so clear!
2. everything is so accessible!
3. the burner is fast and efficient!
4. everything is so easy to use and it
is so ez to get around (even though im still adujusting from using windows for so long

was just wondering about a few things though..

1. is there any downsides to always running my ibook off the power adaptor??
2. what is a good programme for me to start downloading some music from?? iv'e heard bad things about kazaa, so are there any other programmes out there??

and if you know of any other cool things you think i should try out on my new ibook or anything else i should know.

any help would be appreciated.

congrats on the ibook and welcome to the forum.
1. I dont have an ibook, but Im pretty sure it shouldnt always be plugged in, I think for prolongong batt life, its good for it to recharge, which it never does if its always plugged in.
2. what you are talking about is illegal, that being said, kazaa is only available for pc and blows anyway, there are apps like limewire, acquisition, poisoned, xnap, and others, probably the best is bit torrent, which is not peer to peer. there are also edonkey type apps, just use bittorrent. trust me;)
as far as extra things, I suggest gettng a usb mouse if youre not used to the trackpad,
make sure you repair permissions about once a month if you can, or maybe use cocktail,
and dont go crazy downloading free apps and/or fonts and/or screensavers, thats a good way to cause a conflict in the system and then youll definitely come back for help. just come back when you need any help or just have questions. have fun.
and remember, there are NO viruses for mac, or spy/adware.:mac:

I keep my ibook plugged in 90% of the time. I talked to the apple store tech and he said that if you leave it in all the time, there is no damage done, but they recommend once every 1 or 2 weeks, unplug it and use it till the battery dies, not runs down, but actually let the ibook shut itself down because of low battery, then plug it in again and move on. this calibrates the battery and allows the battery to work a bit. he said it is sort of like excercising it. As long as you do this, you can leave it plugged in forever, at least thats what i was told.

I use limewire. I used to use morpheus on my pc, and my wife still does on hers. I actually find limewire has EVERYTHING I have searched for, never had a dead search yet.It downloads fast and allows you to connect to the pc network out there too.

For permissions and other Unix Maintenance, I suggest getting an App called Macaroni, it automatically fits all of the maintenance in, so you never have to worry about it again, all for 9 dollars..Sweet deal if you ask me!

I'm against P2P,so I don't know the answer the that question.

I have a 12" iBook and with 3/4 apps open, airport on, I get about 4.5 hours...Now thats awesome!

Don't bother paying for a maintenance app, onyX and cocktail will do it for free. Just search for them on versiontracker.com.
