This is a little frustrating for me. I'm trying to figure what cables I need to get to hook up my Macbook Pro to the Viewsonic HD 1080p LCD Monitor. It has a DVI and VGA pin; and comes with only a VGA cable.

So all I need is simply a mini-dvi to vga adaptor to connect between my mac and the VGA cable? or what else am i missing?

Here's the monitor I am getting:

ViewSonic 22" HD 1080p LCD Monitor with VGA cable and Speakers VA2223WM

Welcome to the forum!

You definitely would not get that adapter as there has never been a MacBook Pro with a mini-DVI port that I am aware of. A MacBook Pro will have either a DVI port or a mini displayport.

You'll need to provide what Mac you have - I prefer screen size, CPU speed and year - i.e. 15", 2.4, 2009

That would be the mini displayport on your Mac.

You can grab a MDP to VGA adapter from Apple or monoprice and use the VGA cable that comes with the monitor.

Personally, I would suggest maintaining the digital connection with just a single cable / no adapter involved and grab a MDP to DVI cable from monoprice and for less money than either of the adapters - you're not having to pay for any digital to analog conversion being done here. Save the VGA cable for later, or throw it in the drawer you use for collecting old outdated cables.

Depending on how much shipping MacMall is charging, you can compare with Amazon incl'g shipping also.
