Well what I'm doing is using NeoOffice (which is free to download) for now and then getting Office 2008 when it comes out. Some people actually just use NeoOffice exclusively because they find Office as just another expense.

Yeah, Ive got neooffice too. If you type and save something on neooffice, can you open it on word on a different computer w/o and trouble, or do you have to save it in a particular format?

neo office is great you can open it in word and when people attatch things in word documents you can open them in neo office. Also neo office has like a power point programme and a spreadsheet in it too.

Its Brilliant

NeoOffice gives you the option of saving in Microsoft Word format. It even has support for the new standard files like '.docx', something that MS Office for Mac wont have until the 2008 version.

I've been using thinkfree, as opposed to NeoOffice. They let me put PowerPoint on my iPod. It's VERY convenient.

Just out of curiosity, what features do NeoOffice have that things like Thinkfree miss?

Well NeoOffice is an application that sits locally on your hard drive. ThinkFree appears to be a Java app that requires you to be online to access (and by the nature of being Java-based is probably much slower than NeoOffice).

Gotcha. So if you're offline, you're sol without a more premium type of service. Thanks!

My sister has it for Windoze... and it's terrible. I mean, I'm sure it's more powerful, but it's SO rediculously... Vista. Not sure if the Mac version will have Vista toolbars?! But in her WinXP, this program has Vista set up which is not cool in any way Lol If it's not Vista-rized, no complaints! =P

For documents, I would think most could be saved as "rich-text." That's what I use for anything that doesn't absolutely require the proprietary Word format. Letters, resumes, etc all look identical in RTF format and it is an open format.

Rich Text Files are also smaller than the same document saved as a Word Document File I find, so even in Word I usually save as Rich Text.

As for Office 08 being "Vista-ized", it should be pointed out that the Mac versions are made by different people than the ones that develop the Windows version; so I'm sure they'll have their own, more suitable design for OS X.

Is a "Office 2K8" releasing any soon?
