for some reason formulae just don't seem to work. basic formulae adding content of two cells for example come back #value! no matter what i try. formatting cells to number, making sure they are aligned to the right. tried closing down and opening up again in a new spreadsheet. nada. really frustrating.

Welcome to the forum. Version 16.10 for Excel? I have version 16.9 and it reports there are no updates beyond that. When and where did you get 16.10?

just double checked. that is the correct version. i have 365 and get regular updates. this must be a very recent one. which doesn't seem to be helping! i i knew how to attach a screengrab of the version i would.

Shift Command 4 will Gert you a screenshot. I'm guessing you're using the Mac Version...or does it matter with 365? I just updated mine and 16.9 was the latest for Office 2016

I found that I have to host the image someplace like Posting, then choose the 3rd option from the bottom...

Edit: I'll try Raz0redge suggestion next time.

Back to the issue at hand, show us the formula you are using and the sample data.

Yeah, I've just checked again and 16.9 is the latest in Office365, according to MS. Wonder where 16.10 came from?

It's an 'Insider' version which is something akin to beta testing. The official blurb from Microsoft is:-

Office is available around the world, and we’re continuously hard at work on exclusive monthly upgrades and new features for Office 365 subscribers. By becoming an Office Insider, you can get early access to the latest Office innovations. Your feedback goes directly to Microsoft product teams and will help make Office even better for users worldwide.

OK, cannot help with beta versions. Suggest the OP goes to MS about the issue.

Mine did also, and I have no problems with formulae.

zeedeezee, can you show us the formula that does not work? Maybe it's something in the formula structure.
