• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I shot a bunch of home movies on a simple point-and-shoot Canon a few years ago, and I would like to edit it in Final Cut Pro (6). The camera was a Canon SD-770:

Amazon.com: Canon PowerShot SD770 IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver): Camera & Photo

I understand that these cameras and DSLR's are sort of a nightmare for FCP, but I read that it isn't impossible. I have a familiarity with FCP6, but not the Suite. I was told that I should probably use Cinema Tools, but I haven't been able to figure it out.

Can anyone give me some advice on doing this? I really appreciate any insight you can offer to me. Feel free to give "baby steps". Thanks in advance.

I'd try MPEG Streamclip as I mentioned in this thread.
