• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

AVCHD, do you have this problem too?

I was told that final cut exp can edit my avchd files from my sony video camera, then i can burn those files to a standard dvd which will only read in my ps3. Again only ps3. Is this true, again it is edited, music, transitions added, etc..., not just avchd files, but edited in fce4. how do i do it, being that idvd has to burn the dvd. or is this not true.

You can burn AVCHD to DVD in AVCHD format that Blue ray players such as PS2, can read. If I want menus, etc. I would use Toast 9 enabled with Blue Ray. I always archive the originals on DVDs in this format without re-rendering the video which is an option in Toast 9.

To play back in Standard DVD's, I edit on FCE / iMovie and then burn the dvd using iDVD with menus etc. Also, before I delete the project, I render a high data rate MP4 /.H264 to play back on my computers or TV via a MacBook using FrontRow.
