I really want to get a refurbished mini to replace my 2007 iMac. The question I have is should I bother transferring the music files over to the new Mac since they are already in the cloud and if so, is it even possible with such a discrepancy between the two macs.

You should be able to transfer whatever music files and anything else you have to the newer machine. The only problem that may occur is if you have older programs that require PPC emulation (Rosetta) and if you're still running Leopard or Snow Leopard. Lion and above can not run PPC applications. If you need help with the transfer, post back. The easiest way is to use Time Machine and the Migration Assistant.
