I bought my white Macbook from someone locally a few months ago. It's been wonderful.

By searching the serial number, I became aware that it came with Applecare until 2010.

Hypothetically, if I had a problem with it and needed to take in to be fixed at an Apple Store, would I still get serviced knowing the Macbook has Applecare? Or would I be turned away because I did not have documentation on it?

I have read differing reports about this. Would it really just depend on the rep at the store?

I am not aware on how to contact her again as she was moving and needed the money. Am I out of luck because I don't have anything written?

Do you have a bill of sale from the owner? Without some written documentation of the sale I don't believe you can get the Apple Care transferred to your name. If you can contact the original owner somehow, have her give you a bill of sale and then transfer the Apple Care to yourself.

The customer service reps at Apple and the reps at the Apple store are reluctant to honor a warranty or Apple Care other than the original owner unless it's been transferred. The reason is obvious; the machine could be stolen.

Regards.

Very true. There may be a way to contact her as I do have her name (she had software registered to her as well which I didn't keep.)

Hm. Well I wish I had thought about getting a written receipt.

Thank you.
