Hi,
I got the new iMac 27" in the early months of 2013, and it's been working like a charm since then.
But just a week ago, a strange sound emerged from my precious computer.
I can only describe it as a ticking, purring sound.

I recorded it with my iphone, but I hope that you can hear what it is.

I also called an Apple repairshops in Sweden but they could not figure out what the problem was.

What is this sound and how can I fix it?
Is my iMac in any danger of malfunctioning?

Please help :)

Could be something stuck in the fan...or maybe an issue with the fan itself. Newer iMac's have very few moving parts...especially if it has flash storage or an SSD instead of a traditional spinning HD.

But this is only a guess.

Newer iMac's are harder to get into to do an physical exam as well.

Agree with Nick. Your iMac unlike previous models has only one fan which provides cooling and aids in the convection of the warm air upward to the exhaust vents. Opening up a 2012 and 2013 iMac is even more involved and difficult than the 2009-2011 models. Take it to an authorized Apple service center or Apple store and have it checked out.

If you have AppleCare three year extended warranty ask for it to be repaired otherwise a quote as it sure sounds like a fan bearing or similar.
