Accessing a hidden $ share from Mac OS X

Once again forum search and Google have both failed me so I come asking the helpful readers of this forum to perhaps help me out;

On my Windows XP machine, I have several hidden shares that I like to access from other computers in the house. This is not any sort of issue for another Windows machine, but I for the life of me cannot figure out how to do it from a Mac.

Any ideas?

The folders themselves are not hidden, the share is. So in theory I need a way to tell the OS to connect to a specific share insted of just browsing to it.

if you try to type in the ip address.. can the mac see it?
if so.. you can create an alias to that ip address on your mac so you can always connect to the hidden share.

Where should I type in the address exactly?

Currently the only way I know how to get to a network folder is to browse the network from the hard drive.

I tried the method you suggested, but I get a connection failed message. Is there perhaps some protocol I have to set up on the Windows side for the Mac to see it as a "server"?

I use this method to access XP SP2 C$ all the time. try turning off the firewall or try CIFS://yourip/share$

CIFS is to SMB as WINS is to DNS (MS proprietary)

Do non hidden shares work? Are you using an XP local username that has a password? You'll need an account with a password.

Sweet! You are a genius. Turns out that the smb://youripaddress/hiddenshare$ method did work, I just forgot the smb part.
