cant connect to pc's on network

I just got my first macbook 13inch(used)which has os snow lepoard installed, and when i go to connect to my network ,that has 2 PC's and a network external HD, it sees all of them, but only connects to the external network Worldbook HD files.Why does only connect to that drive and not the others? Thanks
