I'm curious about your mod.

Thanks everyone, what a nice forum.

I have many G3 clamshells from a surplus sale. They are second generation
ibooks with 64MB onboard and 6GB hard drives.

OK, I read about this (possible?) mod on applefritter:crazy clamshell hacks ? | Applefritter

So, with so many of them laying around and since I'm very good at soldering and de-soldering, I thought I'd give it a go and try to add/replace the onboard memory. I have extra SODIMM memory modules laying around too.

Some people don't think it can be done because the memory address chip will only access the 64MB which is onboard. That's not true because that same chip is what also accesses the memory you put into the slot.

If it works with a small increase I'm going to try it with more.

I plan on documenting the entire process with pics, etc...

What area in the forum here would be best for putting that info?

Ron
