Remove Safari from Dock?

I am running Firefox and Safari is completely closed but it won't let me drag it to the Trash. What gives?

No, it wasn't. I feel like such an igmo ... after reading all this stuff on OS-X I am still being stumped by some of the easy stuff.

Right click on the Safari icon and click "Remove from Dock"
