The central pin of my AC adaptor has broken off inside the socket.

It has broken, of course, just around the plastic section.

About 4mm of pin is now stuck in the hole.

I know that problems abound with these AC adaptors, but this is a new one on me.

I have a 'spare and repairs' iBook so it wouldn't be unreasonable for me to open the machine up and replace the socket with an old one from the cadaver.

Obviously this is quite major surgery and we don't want to open these things up any more than necessary.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can extract the pin from the socket?

If I shine a light in the hole, I can see the pin stuck in there. Nothing protrudes.

They are not terribly difficult to take apart, no, once you have the case off, but it is very easy to break the case.

If there was some technique using a hat pin or a giant electromagnet or bubble gum, I'd rather try that first.
