Cant highlight photos in Iphoto to remove red eye?

I just got a new macbook pro and it has iPhoto version 9 .. so i watched a tutorial on how to remove red eye which gives the option of clicking on the pupil.. or you can highlight the whole eye area (so its like a box) and then click red eye. For some reason my comp just won't let me click and high light any part of the photo.. any ideas?

When you click edit then red eye, you should have an option to either auto detect red eye or to do it manually. Hopefully the image attatched will help..

Thanks.. this was the tutorial i watched - in it he can do that or he can high light an area around the. But his version of iPhoto may be old, are you able to do it in your eye phot? .. mine doesn't let me highlight any area of the photo...
