Hi. I bought an MC721 from what I think is a repair shop in San Antonio, TX via ebay. Received it today at the office but don't have any way to look at internet pages until I get home.

The generic production description on ebay for this MBP mentioned screen resolution of 1440x900. However, when I go into System Preferences, then Display, the resolution options are 1) Best for Built In Display, or 2) Scaled, with a list going from 1680x1050, and on down to lower resolutions, including 1440x852. Nowhere on the list is 1440x900.

The ad also did not mention anything other than Hard Drive 500G at 5400, but the About This Mac shows it at 500G at 7200. RAM is 2x4G, for 8G.

So, I am assuming the screen on this mc721 is actually 1680x1050?

Looking under About this Mac, Graphics are Intel HD Graphics 3000 at Resolution 1680x1050 w. 512MB, plus AMD Radeon HD6490M

I'm not sure I wanted finer graphics, as I need but don't like to use reading glasses, but this is for my daughter going off to college, and her eyes are great, with an Ipad Mini, and an iPhone5, so I know she can do well with tiny writing.

thought I should add:

Machine is 8,2
Speed is 2.0 Ghz
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Total Number of Cores: 4

So for sure is is the MC721 right? That's the only Quad Core i7 at 2.0, correct?

You have an "Early 2011" 15" MacBook Pro.

The "stock" display was 1440 x 990...but a high resolution display upgrade was available (1680 x 1050). You may have the higher resolution display.

The best option is to choose "Best for Built-In Display". Since you say that the 1440 x 990 resolution is not available as an option...this may confirm that you have the higher resolution 1680 x 1050 display.

Thanks. I guess she lucked out (my daughter), but for my eyes I would prefer 1440x900.

The batter cycles shows (1). Must be a new battery.

The RPM of the hard drive is 7200. Was that also an upgrade available on the MC721?

For your eyes, you can set the minimum font size in Safari, if that's the problem, or you can use Command-"+" to zoom in and Command - "-" to zoom out.

Yes...I was going to mention that in my post above. Sometimes the high resolution display upgrade (1680 x 1050) can be a "downgrade" for folks (myself included) whose eyes aren't what they used to be!;)

Like MacInWin mentioned...the font size can be adjusted within most applications to compensate.:)
