I was wondering if it is possible to view a slideshow of some pictures on a cd without importing them into iPhoto first. I've checked view options but can't seem to find it, maybe i'm just missing something

If you select all of them and open them all at once in Preview, you'll be able to display them sequentially in a Preview window. It's not a slideshow, but it'll let you see them without importing them.

But the Finder is a file browser, and it doesn't do much else.

You can use Graphic Converter to do a slideshow of pictures. You can pick a folder or other source and display the pics within. GC has been included with new Macs for some time. If you don't have it you can get it from www.macupdate.com. You can also use the Presentation feature of Appleworks.
